Methamphetamine:  A potent high that kills your brain cells...

At low doses the drug can block hunger, focus attention, steady the heart and boost endurance. Every day there are desparate people making the mistake of smoking, snorting and injecting a drug that briefly makes the body feel good, but kills the brain along the way. Users of the drug can become walking zombies. They often have paranoid fantasies that are fueled by days without sleep and/or food, only craving for more of the drug.

The effects of methamphetamine use include:

  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure
  • Increased wakefulness, insomnia
  • Increased physical activity
  • Decreased appetite
  • Respiratory problems
  • Extreme anorexia
  • Hyperthermia, convulsions, and cardiovascular problems which can lead to death
  • Euphoria
  • Irritability, confusion, tremors
  • Anxiety, paranoia, and/or violent behavior
  • Can cause irreversible damage to blood vessels in the brain, producing strokes
  • For intravenous (IV) users = AIDS, hepatitis, infections, and sores at the injection site, and infection of the heart lining and valves

 

 

For Pregnant Woman
Premature labor and detachment of the placenta. Babies can be born methamphetamine addicted and suffer birth defects, low birth weight, tremors, excessive crying, attention deficit disorder, and behavior disorders.There is also an increased risk of child abuse (including "shaken baby syndrome") and neglect of children born to parents who use methamphetamine.

 Signs of a Meth user:

  • Stimulated movement and speech
  • Feelings of excitement and euphoria
  • Irritability, nervousness
  • "Pounding heart" sensation, palpitations, hot flashes, dry mouth, sweating
  • Burns on fingers from covering the vent hole of the "ice" pipe

Signs of Long Term or Excessive Use:

  • Mental confusion
  • Severe anxiety
  • Agressiveness, violence
  • Severe weight loss
  • Diarrhea, vomiting
  • Increased agitation and irritation
  • Visual and audio hallucinations
  • Paranoia
  • Lethargy
  • Tremors
  • Chest pain
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Elevated body temperature
  • Convulsions
  • Cardiovascular collapse
  • DEATH
